Who remembers the movie "Sweet Home Alabama" with Reece Witherspoon, Josh Lucas and Patrick Dempsey,(Dr. McSteamy)? Believe it or not, my HUSBAND loves the movie as much as I do! Well, needless to say, we both are animal lovers! Especially dogs and horses! We both had decided that once our furbabies passed on, we wouldn't get anymore because of our age and them being hard to find sitters for if needed. Recently, one Sunday afternoon I had cooked supper a little early because I had a meeting to attend at church. I left knowing I would have to clean the kitchen when I returned. After returning, I set in like a crazy woman raking dishes out, stacking, running dishwater, (I don't have a dishwasher) so you know the routine! Suddenly this little fella here ran past me! I did a double take! What is that? I asked my husband. Well, he said, Bub and I were just sitting out in the yard enjoying the beautiful weather God gave us this afternoon and this little fella came running over to us! He has a head full of sense and fits in well!!! What happened to the "we are getting old and don't need anymore animals" don't you understand? I asked. Well he is such a cutie and he looks just like Bryant on "Sweet Home Alabama!" We are going to call him Bryant! Well, needless to say, Bryant stayed with us and he was adorable! Bryant was taken to the Vet the next day to get all of his shots and get checked out. He was full of energy and could catch just about anything that moved. He definitely was an outside dog! We have a small farm and love for the dogs to stay outside in good weather but at night, they are in the house! No matter how big! Bryant chose to sleep in the laundry room by himself. We made him a little bed in there since he didn't want to sleep with the other dogs (in our bed)! Early each morning he wanted out. We soon learned Bryant had to be part hunting dog because he caught birds, any bird that caught his eye! I have had two Jack Russell dogs and never saw them catch a hummingbird, but Bryant did! He wreaked havoc on our rabbits, birds, lizards, groundhogs, anything that moved! We have many gray squirrels in our area but very few red squirrels. Those Jacks' chased those red squirrels for years with no luck. Unfortunately, one morning Bryant caught our fat little red squirrel and a mourning dove within 10 minutes of going out! He was scolded, but that didn't stop him! My little 16 month old grandson, Jack, loved Bryant! One afternoon my husband called me at work, to tell me Bryant's owner had come by and gotten him! We have had him for two plus months I told him! How could they show up now?! He was ours! Our grandson loved him, we loved him! Ended up, yes they were his owners, but can't figure out how he got to our house! He lived two miles away and he was just a puppy! When I got home from work, my husband and I went to say our goodbyes to Bryant! His owners were great Christian people. We played and hugged about an hour and left. The next day, my son calls me and says "guess what Mom"? I knew Bryant had come back to us! And yes, he had! He had walked that two miles again all by himself and came back to Gran! I was elated! But, being a Christian, I had to call his real Mama and send him home. It would be stealing if we kept him knowing his owners. I haven't seen Bryant since that day but I do check on him. We all sure do miss him, but he is with his real owners. I wonder if they will get tired of him anytime soon and bring him back? I can always pray they will!
